Think of two things you could do next week – perhaps sitting outside reading a book and going to the dentist to have a wisdom tooth extracted.
Stop for a moment and think about them, one by one. Notice how your body and mind reacts to each. The dentist vision may cause you to literally shake, while the other relaxes you.
You are physically feeling the impact of your internal ratings list!
What Do You Think?
Was it hard to do this activity?
Did you feel like you were stepping out of your everyday reality?
Or did it feel very grounded – in real, physical terms?
Now of course this was just a brief summary of the first step. If you do no more than complete all the steps (that are just as easy) from the Ratings List section in the second chapter, your life will be transformed – because you physically experienced it.

This is an interesting one to try – you might be surprised. Carry a notebook and pen for one whole day, and write down every negative comment you hear in your head – your mind chatter. You might hear “stop messing up”, “can’t you do anything right?”, “you’re not good enough to get this job”, or even “you are too fat to wear this dress.”
Don’t dwell on the chatter once you have written it down! Just compile the list. You might be surprised at how many times you complain at yourself throughout the day, or how much chatter you hear.
Now this isn’t about the content of the chatter, so put the list aside for a day or two, so you can look at it again without any emotional component.
Take a look at your list. Where do you think these comments came from?

Of course there’s a lot more to beliefs and the unconscious mind. This was just a simple way to show how easy it really is to access and experience your inner mind – you are always connected to it!
